Everyone wants FREEDOM. Many people think freedom means doing what you want. But that can be dangerous, since human desires do not always correspond to what is best for one’s self. Freedom is never absolute, since it is always limited by the freedom of others. Freedom requires responsibility – for myself and for others.

Freedom as Experiment

Freedom is always in process. Whether it is my individual freedom or the social right to be free and to have freedom of expression – freedom must always be generated anew; it is never entirely stable. In our Christian faith, this experiment goes a step further: God has freed us humans from everything evil and false, even from death. This freedom requires a voluntarily connection to God. In the Holy Spirit we are free both to love others as ourselves, even our enemies.

No Forced Dogma

In our Mennonite tradition, we value freedom. We follow the teachings of the Bible and of Christian tradition, but we do not want to become fossilized in dogma or in our articles of faith. We remain in dialogue about what the Bible and tradition mean for us to day, and we encourage each other to go forward with Christin freedom for love.

We are an Independent Protestant Church

Since our origins in the sixteenth-century Reformation, our church has been independent from the state. We advocate the separation of church and state. We desire the preservation of a free sphere that is simultaneously protected and open. Freedom does not simply exist on its own; it must always be created anew.

Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
2 Corinthians 3:17
