JUSTICE means for us above all solidarity. Thinking about other people, sharing what we have, supporting those in need – that is justice. In a just society, poor people have the same rights as the rich. There are always differences between people because of their background, their social status, or their income. But all must have what they need to live. In a just society, the needs of all people are taken into consideration.

God is with all people

God is always there, wherever people are in need. God is just. Sometimes God’s purposes are mysterious and his presence can’t always be physically seen, but we believe that God is always there when people need him most.

In our Berlin Mennonite Church, we need God in order to live as a just fellowship. Our community includes rich and poor, young and old, and many others. Despite all our differences, we want to be there for each other. No one should be overlooked!

Global Justice

At the same time, we remember all people beyond our own congregation. For us, it is important that all people worldwide treat each other with justice. One way we work at that is to only serve coffee purchased from “Fair Coffee in the Churches,” a program of Bread for the World.

Mennonite Humanitarian Aid (Mennonitsches Hilfswerk) works to alleviate injustice in the world by providing concrete aid to people in difficult circumstances. The members of Christian Peacemaker Teams risk their own lives to help those who live in violent and unjust environments. Both of these organizations are dedicated to sharing God’s solidarity with people in need.

Together with other churches, we also work toward political change in our own country. Through the Representative of the Conference of Independent Protestant Churches at the seat of the Federal Government (Beauftragten der Vereinigung Evangelischer Freikirchen am Sitz der Bundesregierung), we participate in discussions with political representatives and work toward a more just society.

Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.
Amos 5:24
